How To Install Chrome OS On Any PC Using Win32 Disk Imager

Chrome OS is one of the most interesting desktop operating systems on the market because of its simplicity. Nowadays, Chromebooks with Google Chrome OS are on the rise. With Chrome OS, Google has not only created their own OS, but has also established a brand new product category of Chromebooks. If your primary workflow is mostly based on Google services, Chrome OS will suit you. In this guide, I am going to show you how to install Chrome OS on a regular computer. This would be ideal, if you just want to try Chrome OS and don't want to buy a Chromebook.  Chromium OS is a great way to give a second life to old PCs , but it is also useful for modern devices with fairly limited hardware capabilities.

With few tools and a few simple steps, it is possible to install Chrome OS on almost any computer. I will be using Win32 Disk Imager to install Chrome OS. Win32 Disk Imager is an open-source bootable USB flash drive creator software. Other than that, we need the ISO file of Chrome OS. You can download this directly from Chrome OS website. You also need a USB flash drive with atleast 16GB of capacity. Please make sure you follow the following steps very carefully.

  1. Download Win32 Disk Imager from their website and install it on your PC.
  2. Simply drag and drop the ISO file that you've downloaded into the Win32 Disk Imager and click on the "Start" button.
  3. Now the preparation will begin and it will take few minutes to complete. After that, you can eject your USB flash drive and use it to install Chrome OS.

You may need to use another Chrome OS recovery image if your device includes the TPM 1.2 security module and you are having login problems. A quick Google search will help you with this.

It is also possible to run Chrome OS on a USB flash drive. An advantage of installing it on the flash drive is that you can use your system on any PC to which you connect, although as a disadvantage you will have a fairly limited space to install applications.
