announces the release of the first dance track ever calibrated with
Polyphonic HMI's Hit Song Science (HSS) application, using
artificial intelligence to predict hit potential.
The track,
entitled Big Bertha Butt is performed by Huggy Bear (a.k.a. Antonio
Fargas, the ORIGINAL Huggy Bear from the 70's US television series,
Starsky & Hutch) and produced by British up and comer David
Lear. Hit Song Science (HSS) made worldwide news in early 2003 when
its existence was announced and in December the New York Times
called HSS one of the 67 biggest ideas that made a difference in
2003.
The work was commissioned by Fat Face Records in
London. Label President Andrew De Monte says, "This is an excellent
track and we're very proud of the work we've done with Polyphonic
HMI, David Lear and Huggy Bear to create a hit. We all came together
to do some of the most innovative work being done in the industry
today."
Big Bertha Butt is accompanied by an animated video
clip in which Huggy is seen performing his song at an urban dance
club to the jeers of patrons. After being thrown out of the club
Huggy lands in the offices of Polyphonic HMI where his song is
recalibrated for hit potential by using HSS technology and then sent
on his way back to the club. Huggy then performs the track again,
receives overwhelming applause and adoration from all of the club
patrons and then, of course, he gets the girl.
"Early
response to the song has been great," says Huggy. "It is great to be
in on the ground level with HSS - it is a super new tool for
artists. I am looking forward to the release of the song and the
response from a wider audience."
Initial physical release
will be in the UK as well as Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia,
Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, India. A
distribution deal for the US is being worked out as well but
currently the track is available from iTunes in their Dance section.
It will also be available next week from CD-Wow.
Big Bertha
Butt, while not the first recorded track to use the new technology,
is the first dance track to be released and marks the beginning of a
new era in music production.
